Binary power allocation for cognitive radio networks with centralized and distributed user selection strategies

چکیده
Motivated by the desire for efficient spectral utilization, we present a novel algorithm based on binary power allocation for sum rate maximization in Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN). At the core lies the idea of combiningmulti-user diversity gainswith spectral sharing techniques and consequently maximizing the secondary user sum rate while maintaining a guaranteed quality of service (QoS) to the primary system. We consider a cognitive radio network consisting of multiple secondary transmitters and receivers communicating simultaneously in the presence of the primary system. Our analysis treats both uplink and downlink scenarios. We first present a distributed power allocation algorithm that attempts to maximize the throughput of the CRN. The algorithm is simple to implement, since a secondary user can decide to either transmit data or stay silent over the channel coherence time depending on a specified threshold, without affecting the primary users’ QoS. We then address the problem of user selection strategy in the context of CRN. Both centralized and distributed solutions are presented. Simulation results carried out based on a realistic network setting show promising results. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Asymptotic Close to Optimal Resource Allocation in Centralized Multi-band Wireless Networks
This paper concerns sub-channel allocation in multi-user wireless networks with a view to increasing the network throughput. It is assumed there are some sub-channels to be equally divided among active links, such that the total sum rate increases, where it is assumed each link is subject to a maximum transmit power constraint. This problem is found to be a non-convex optimization problem and i...
متن کاملMultiple-Level Power Allocation Strategy for Secondary Users in Cognitive Radio Networks
In this paper, we propose a new multiple-level power allocation strategy for the secondary user (SU) in cognitive radio (CR) networks. Different from the conventional strategies, where SU either stays silent or transmit with a constant/binary power depending on the busy/idle status of the primary user (PU), the proposed strategy allows SU to choose different power levels according to a carefull...

Decoupling the uplink and downlink user association improves the throughput of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) and balances the traffic load of macro- and small- base stations. Recently, fiber-wireless HetNets (FiWi-HetNets) have been considered as viable solutions for access networks. To improve the accuracy of user association and resource allocation algorithms in FiWi-HetNets, the capacity ...
متن کاملOn co-channel and adjacent channel interference mitigation in cognitive radio networks
Cognitive radio (CR) is an emerging wireless communications paradigm of sharing spectrum among licensed (or, primary) and unlicensed (or, CR) users. In CR networks, interference mitigation is crucial not only for primary user protection, but also for the quality of service of CR user themselves. In this paper, we consider the problem of interference mitigation via channel assignment and power a...
متن کاملOn Joint Sub-channel Allocation, Duplexing Mode Selection, and Power Control in Full-Duplex Co-Channel Femtocell Networks
As one of the promising approaches to increase the network capacity, Full-duplex (FD) communications have recently gained a remarkable attention. FD communication enables wireless nodes to simultaneously send and receive data through the same frequency band. Thanks to the recent achievements in the self-interference (SI) cancellation, this type of communication is expected to be potentially uti...
